Making Democracy Work

Take part in our democracy!

Civic Engagement

Get involved at whatever level you can.

Register to vote online or use paper registration forms which are available in public libraries, post offices, government offices, and the DMV. If you call your County Election Office, they will mail you a registration form.

To register online you will need:

  • Your California driver license or California identification card number
  • The last four digits of your social security number and
  • Your date of birth.

Watch Government Meetings!

Many of our local government meetings are recorded and aired on TV. Some of them are also streamed online.

Access Humboldt televises and archives these meetings on their collection on Archive.org

Attend meetings in-person!

Government meetings are public and open. Find meeting times and locations by calling the relevant entity.

Agendas should be available prior to the meeting and citizens are often allowed 3 minutes of public speaking.

Become an observer!

Our members attend various government meetings and observe democracy at work. Observers may report to the League's Action Chair about anything they feel is not in line with an open and informed democracy or they may hear about a cause that the League should support.

If you have an interest in observing government meeting for the League, please contact us!

Visit our Observers page.
