Re: Multiple Assistance Center (MAC)
Dear Members of the Board:
The League of Women Voters of Humboldt County would like to voice its support for the Multiple Assistance Center (MAC).
The League helped to establish the Coalition for Transitional Housing and participated in the Humboldt Homeless Initiative which brought city, county and community together, seeking a permanent solution for homelessness. League members also participated in planning the many public meetings at which community members were encouraged to express their ideas and concerns.
The League continues to support the programs that were established as a result of this extensive planning process. These programs are currently successfully serving homeless families and individuals at the MAC. We believe that this approach offers the best prospects for our community’s citizens to transition back into housing and employment. As demonstrated by the program’s success since its inception, the MAC offers the best use of our resources to effect real change in people’s lives while avoiding duplication of services.
The process of establishing and maintaining the MAC has been long and arduous. League volunteers have been active in that process. There will continue to be obstacles, but with the community joining together, we believe that those problems can be resolved and the cycle of homelessness can be broken.
The League of Women Voters of Humboldt County joins others in the community in continuing to support the MAC.
Sincerely,
Mona Daly, President LWVHC
